I grew up in a family of sailing enthusiasts, learning to sail at Lake Norman Yacht Club north of Charlotte. I've since raced Sunfish, Lasers, 420's, Hobies, Y-Flyers, Thistles, and J/24's.

In 1999, I bought my first "big boat" (a Beneteau Oceanis 440) to cruise and race in the southeast US. I kept her until 2005 when my twins were born.
